The right functioning of God’s order governing our lives is as systematic as the rising sun each day… nothing can stop it….

"As a cloud hides the sun it cannot extinguish, so false belief silences for a while the voice of immutable harmony..."

How this website can help you...

If you are wanting to deepen your spirituality by looking into Christian Science, you are in the right place.

Every week there is a topic for each of us to study in a Bible Lesson.

The way to do it is outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, which is available for purchase in Christian Science Reading Rooms all around the world and online.

The spoken word of God has always been from mouth to mouth. In this spirit, I have recorded the current lessons for the next few weeks (they are coming soon).

Once you have listened to this week’s topic the pages on this website will become more relevant for you to use for your own advancement.

Welcome all to listen!

How often do we get up in the morning and feel we have to “do” something, initiate or instigate a project? *

How different would our day be if we started off by turning to God? Here is a poem to help.

“I am the place where God shines through,
For He and I are one, not two.
He wants me where, and as I am,
I need not fret, nor fear, nor plan.
If I will be relaxed and free
He'll carry out his work through me.”

With this view, we respond to God’s will and not our own.

We Never Walk Alone

Many of us feel very much like Jonah having been given an assignment just cannot face up to it ever or even just on a specific day and decide we’ll do something else as we cannot possibly do it!

But we find instead it’s impossible to run away from ourselves!!  We are who we are…and have to move forward.

We feel swallowed up by “a whale” of issues. Jonah felt the same and literally was thrown overboard by his fellow travellers who were being tossed about on a tumultuous sea…perhaps no co-incidence; an outward occurrence of what was happening in the life of many back on land where Jonah was told that he needed to settle the worshipping of false idols which was upsetting the lives of the inhabitants of Nineveh.

So often when we start fawning*, feeling cowardly about what is right to do, we avoid listening to the positive word of God, going about our affairs in a mixed-up way.  We just mess up and jog along hoping things will sort themselves out.

But God is there like he was with Jonah with the Whale ready to swallow us up and spit us out sorted out and in one piece…. incredible really!

*Fawning adjective
A circle of fawning civil servants: OBSEQUIOUS, servile, sycophantic, flattering, ingratiating, unctuous, oleaginous, oily, toadyish, slavish, bowing and scraping, grovelling, abject, crawling, creeping, cringing, prostrate, Uriah Heepish; informal bootlicking, smarmy, slimy, sucky, soapy; North American informal brown-nosing; British vulgar slang arse-kissing, bum-sucking; North American vulgar slang kiss-ass, ass-kissing; rare saponaceous.

I was walking out of a well-attended concert in London recently with hundreds of people walking down the road to the underground station and noticed that they were all walking singly, each to his own to get home.

So, each one had made the effort to meet up to hear the beautiful and sweet Oratorio taking home the tunes they had just heard, and it reminded me of this poem, which has helped me many times, perhaps when feeling very lonely.

FOCUS

This photo is an example of what to focus on in your life.

Love your God given qualities in order to fulfill your unique potential.
When we play the harp strings of our heart we feel harmony in our life.
This enables us to be aware of the next move without willing it.

Like David.
David, the shepherd boy who became King lived his Love of God, played the harp strings of his Soul and this resonated with all who loved goodness and defeated everything antagonistic to it.

Why problems?

Wrongs have nothing right about them!

So, perhaps they are a nudge to see things "rightly?"

ALL we really want is an e a s y life Yes? . . . a smooth way to proceed and here's Isaiah saying . . . No problems . . . leave it to God . . . crazy . . . yes?

But think about it . . . as he made us . . . he knows us . . . knows what's best for us as he is governing, caring for us and guiding us! He knows us inside out!

Perhaps we'd better listen . . . [to our 'gut' feeling]
It's preparing a highway [a fast route] to Home [heaven].

So isn’t it by accentuating our good thoughts that we ‘see’ the right path?

Read what the prophet Isaiah says God wants us to do as it was He who made us!

Anything that trespasses on our freedom so we feel we are not God governed in our daily lives needs to be fought off!

“. . .The Truth shall make you free.”

Christ Jesus

God is Love... and doing something kind to someone often leads to freedom of some sort.

GOD IS LOVE

There is no fear in love;

but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

“Phew! That was close!”

It’s a good thing I was on my toes in a similar situation the other day.

What kept me on my toes and not finding myself on the front of this car, thinking and looking like this man?

I’d been thinking about God’s goodness to all of us when this happened to me the other day. I was on my toes and pushed myself off the front of the car back to the sidewalk and kept walking.

What do you think?

Look forward to talking?

It's easy to think lovingly of ourselves when our spiritual side comes into focus.

Thinking of our spiritual qualities of goodness, being bountiful and bounteous, kind, bighearted; fulsome, soft-hearted, lenient, considerate, tolerant, humane, understanding, sympathetic, liberal, helpful, obliging, openhanded, unselfish, unsparing, mild, humane, unstinting, compassionate, warm-hearted, tender, merciful, accommodating, aimiable, helpful, agreeable, easy-to-please, good-natured, well-disposed, friendly, well meaning, well-intentioned, good.

THERE IS NOTHING EITHER GOOD OR BAD, BUT THINKING MAKES IT SO.

SHAKESPEARE

Prayer works!

There is nothing outside of God that could encroach upon Him. If there were any element of discord in infinite Being, Life would ultimately spend itself. To be eternal, Life must be without any element of friction.

Old and new.... there's room for every shape and size in God's kingdom!  The one Mind creates all things we just catch the vision.... and just have to fit it all in.

Wherever we are we can bring to events something worthwhile just by being there [reflecting/shining, God's goodness].... offering our talents or even perhaps just by being calm and happy; not demanding in any way. Like a ripple when a stone is thrown in a lake a good thought for someone can reach a far shore!

Renewal

Renewal is about God's creative and regenerating power, The Christ, the light, which brought the world into being and continually keeps unfolding and refreshing all life. And when we need to accomplish something good, we need to apprehend a bigger picture more than apply our our own personal merits to accomplish wonderful, worthwhile things. So listening to God brings the new Christ view of Love and uplift, to do it!

Your happiness is as inevitable as the aroma of this Lily!

Here's a quote from Science and Health: "Mind, God, sends forth the aroma of Spirit, the atmosphere of intelligence." And it goes on to say, the result of this can rule out what the physical senses tell us.

WHAT IS FREEDOM?

freedom2.png

To drive a sailing boat forward the wind has to be held in the sail by the helmsman with one hand and gradually he lowers the keel with the other hand to provide the resistance; this connection drives it forward; stops the boat from just skidding round.

No use idly sitting on the bank resting if you have a boat, or a problem for that matter! We use the tools that are given to us to provide momentum. And like flying a kite it is effortless. The skin of the kite provides a catchment area but this has to be anchored in order to harness the power… You have to feel the connection; if the connection becomes lax, its free-will just takes over, and it goes willy nilly, falls and crashes.

We need to take up our connection, to the Principle of all things, for our lives to make progress. This is the best freedom we can have. Freedom from self destructive selfishness and will power [see this week’s Quarterly Bible Lesson] and it can be found by taking up our search for the Kingdom of Heaven and putting
it first.

“. . . C.B. Morlock, a war correspondent during World War II, chronicled this amazing incident: “Sixty German aircraft strafed more than four hundred men who were pinned down on the sandy Dunkirk beaches without the benefit of any place to take cover. Although the men were repeatedly attacked by machine guns and bombed by enemy aircraft, not one single man was hit. Every man in that group left the beach without a scratch.”

What brought about such amazing protection? Morlock said he’d been personally told by Navy men who picked up those particular survivors from Dunkirk, that the men had shouted Psalm 91 [He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty] at the top of their lungs!"

FROM DESPAIR TO HOPE AND JOY

"I have often had a desire to make public what Christian Science has done for me, but I never could tell of all my blessings, they are so many. From childhood I was always sick, never knew one hour of rest, and was under the doctor’s care most of the time. I was living in the East at that time, and was advised to try change of climate, which I did. I came West with my family in the spring of the year, but instead of growing better I grew steadily worse, until at last I was obliged to keep my bed for nearly three years, — a great sufferer. My ailments were, it seemed, all that flesh is heir to, and were called incurable by the doctors; viz., Bright’s disease, and many others, — in the last stages. My case was known among physicians, many of whom were prominent specialists, as a most extreme one. Many, upon looking at me, would turn away with a wise shake of the head and say, “What keeps her alive?” My physicians, who were exceedingly kind and did all that lay within their power for me, gave me up and the death sentence was pronounced on me by all who attended me.

It was then I realized that “man’s extremity is God’s opportunity.” The “little book” was handed me at this hour of great need. I read it, not thinking it would heal me, but, like a drowning man, I grasped at it. I read it, read it again, and soon found myself growing stronger; then I kept on reading and was perfectly healed of all the supposedly incurable diseases.  — L. B., Austin, Minn."
